Happy Labor Day!
Today is the day to recognize and celebrate the many achievements of our country’s working class. Dating back to the late nineteenth century, Labor Day was inspired by labor activists who felt a federal holiday was warranted to acknowledge the significant impact that workers have on America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. It is due to the collective efforts of organized labor that there are regulations in place surrounding workers’ pay, hours, working conditions, benefits and more. As a 27-year union member and 20+ year union representative, I regularly enjoy the day by participating in one of the largest and oldest Labor Day parades in America, right here in Pittsburgh, alongside my working class brothers and sisters. How do you spend your Labor Day?!
